Taranabant , a new obesity solution

Taranabant Diet Medication In The Works
By Scotty Smith

The war has been on for a long time now in the fight on obesity and there is a new medication currently in the making, it has a name, MK-0364 or Taranabant. Taranabant is Merek's little project being developed to fight the buldge but since it is currently in trials, it will not be on the market for potentially a year yet. For those who are interested, it is a cannabinoid-1 (CB-1) receptor inverse agonist.

Back on June 15th of 2007 Acomplia® or Rimonabant was put on hold by the FDA for approval in the USA due to some questions over the possible side effects those taking it may experience. Merek however hopes that the stage 3 trials proves to be more successful in the FDA's eyes and that this medication can start to be prescribed for those suffering from obesity. It would make sense that Taranabant would have to have fewer negative side effects than rimonabant for the FDA to consider it. Merek hopes to bring this medication before the FDA sometime next year. Meanwhile more clinical testing will be done to determine its overall effectiveness and if its benefits outweigh any potential risks involved with it.

Since obesity is such a huge problem affecting millions around the the USA alone. There are other big pharmaceutical companies working towards other solutions to fight obesity. Pfizer for example is currently working on a substance known only as CP-945598. This would receive a common name if testing proves to be successful. But for now it is simply known as CP-945598. There are most likely other medications being tested by other companies as well, just nothing on the news of them as such. But with such a huge market for them it is most likely that some are in the works. Regardless any medication has to go through testing by the FDA before hitting the USA market.

Obesity problems around developed nations have continues to grow at a rather quick pace. Many contribute this to all the modern conveniences that society has, such as computers, and machinery and other sedentary past times such as video games and television. Exercise is often being overlooked as an important part of life and much of the food many consume is very high in fats and sugars. All of this can easily lead to a nation ever increasing their belt size.

A Drunken Night in Iraq, a Soldier Left Behind
Woman Is Run Over, Abandoned by a Sergeant. Her Family Wants to Know Why.

By Donna St. George Washington Post Staff Writer
The sun had not yet risen in Taji. A young Army soldier lay alone in the dirt. She was alive, but barely. Her ribs had been crushed; her spleen, ruptured. Her right side was marked by the angular tread of a tire.
Pfc. Hannah Gunterman McKinney was 20 years old, the brown-eyed mother of a toddler son, when she was spotted in the headlights of a passing
Humvee on a perimeter road at one of the largest U.S. military camps in Iraq.
Thirteen hours later, in
Redlands, Calif., Barbie and Matt Heavrin, who had three children in the military, learned they had lost their elder daughter to "injuries suffered when she was struck by a vehicle," as the Army first described it.
But there was more to the story. For the Heavrins, the events of Sept. 4, 2006, inside the wire of Camp Taji emerged bit by bit. McKinney's last hours, they would learn, involved alcohol, sex and a decorated reservist who was responsible for looking out for junior enlisted soldiers such as their daughter. .........

Britney Spears Hospital

Britney Spears Hospital

Britney Spears was taken to hospital last night: apparently while she was arguiing with the police over returning the children to her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, she was underthe influence of an "unknown substance". We do assume that it wasn't an excess of uxorial feeling.

There are reports pop starlet Britney Spears has been taken to hospital from her home, after police were called to resolve a custody dispute. Celebrity news website TMZ says Spears has been taken to a hospital for a "medical hold," which it described as a mental evaluation. Police "found her earlier this evening at her home under the influence of an 'unknown substance'," the site reports.

As we all know, drugs are indeed interesting and often even fun, but taking them while arguing with the police might not be the most sensible thing Britney Spears has ever done.

Britney Spears has been rushed to hospital in Los Angeles after a dramatic stand-off with police at her home last night (January 3). She was wheeled out of her home on a gurney and taken in an ambulance to UCLA Medical Center. Her medical condition is unknown, although it is being reported by that she was under the influence of an unknown substance when police arrived.

Have a look at the photo here. Whatever that substance is it produces a shit-eating grin.

The drama began around 7 PM PT tonight when TMZ reported that Britney Spears‘ Beverly Hills home was surrounded by police cars, fire trucks, an ambulance and a police chopper. Apparently, Britney finally snapped and refused to return her two sons back to K-Fed tonight as per the court’s orders. At around 11 PM PT, Sean Preston and Jayden James were finally handed back to their daddy and the LAPD discovered Britney “under the influence of an unknown substance.” Paramedics wheeled her out of her home on a gurney and she has been taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on a “medical hold” (aka a mental evaluation). As soon as she came out of the ambulance, she flipped off the paparazzi. Last time they pissed her off she messed up one of their cars’ with an umbrella. I’d be careful, she’s in a delicate state.

There's a longer report here in The Times (really, that paper making so much of a celeb story?)

Britney Spears and her younger son were rushed to hospital in ambulances today after a four-hour showdown in which she refused to hand over her children to former husband Kevin Federline despite a court order.

Aerial footage from a local television station showed Spears, surrounded by six police cars, a fire engine and hordes of paparazzi, stretchered out of her Los Angeles home and into a waiting ambulance at around 11pm (0700GMT Friday).

Rock Her World Lawsuit By Model

A Westchester model—identifying herself as only “Jane Doe” has sued Szul Jewelry Inc.—claiming that a television ad with the tag line “rock her world”, for which she was paid $200, portrays her in a less than wholesome light.

Now, we have watched a post of the ad on You Tube , and we find it hard to believe that Jane Doe’s behavior on the ad could be taken for anything resembling the “wholesome” persona she claims was maligned. What could she have been thinking when she made the ad?
